By means of the decree, the Apostolic Penitentiary “confirms and extends for the entire month of November 2021 all the spiritual benefits already granted on 22 October 2020” – that is, it allows the faithful to gain plenary indulgences for the souls in purgatory by visiting a cemetery on every day in November and praying for those who have died; normally, the indulgence is limited to the first eight days of the month. A second plenary indulgence is also established for the day of the commemoration of the faithful departed, All Souls’ Day, November 2. The current decree allows the faithful to obtain that indulgence for the benefit of the deceased on any day of November, at their choice.

The Sacrament of First Penance

(Reconciliation or Confession)

Before preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, children must first have a foundational understanding of who God is and what He asks of His Church. Therefore, children preparing for First Penance are to complete one full year of religious education just prior to entering Sacramental Preparation.

Our School provides children’s preparation classes for the Sacraments of Initiation (Confirmation and Eucharist) and for the sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance or Confession).

Our Archdiocesan primary schools follow the “This is Our Faith” RE Programme which helps our children learn more about Jesus.

For families with children at other schools, we offer help and support in sacramental preparation through our Parish Catechetics Team.

Preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation will begin around Christmas and will be celebrated next spring. (See LITURGICAL RITES for Christian Initiation for Children)

If you wish your child to prepare for and celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, then please complete your child’s sacramental details on Form P-3 and return it directly to parish office or via the school.

For adult sacramental preparation, please see the Becoming Catholic Section (RCIA).
